How I work

I am a Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about supporting my clients to live a meaningful and fulfilled life. I hope to facilitate my clients to achieve their therapeutic goals by helping them to understand and make the most of their strengths. I also work with clients on areas of difficulty and changing unhelpful patterns. Engaging in therapy can be a daunting prospect and it takes a great deal of courage to be vulnerable and open during a time of pain.  I welcome my clients to a warm and relaxed space. My approach is collaborative and individualised, and I take time to ensure I am working in a way that aligns with my clients needs.

Perinatal Psychology

Perinatal psychology applies the therapeutic techniques of psychology to clients at all stages of their parenting journey, from pre-conception to three years post birth. I started Megan Robson Psychology to follow my passion to improve the experience of my clients during the important transition into parenthood and throughout the life-changing and, at times, often chaotic early years. As a parent, I share a personal and professional understanding of how overwhelming and challenging this time can be. My goal is to support clients to develop strength, confidence and skill in areas of difficulty, so they can experience joy and meaning in their lives.

Particular areas of focus are listed below. I encourage prospective clients to get in touch to arrange a free no obligation chat to discover if I am a good fit for your needs.

Areas of focus

  • Managing life transitions including relationship breakdowns, family changes, adjusting to parenthood and exploring values-based decision making.

  • Preparing for parenthood (both individual and couples). This work can take place pre-conception or during pregnancy; it helps ease the level of overwhelm often experienced by new parents. Preparation is particularly useful for clients who feel a lot of anxiety about becoming a parent or have concerns related to their own experiences of being parented.

  • Birth debriefing. This is especially useful for clients whose birth experience was not what they had hoped for. Having a safe space to process the experience in its entirety (both positive and negative elements) can be an important step in healing and moving forward.

  • Couples counselling.

  • Early parenting and attachment concerns (Age 0-3). This is useful for those who are struggling to feel bonded to their babies or who are having difficulties with understanding and effectively responding to their child’s challenging behaviours.

  • Difficulties with a loss of identity after having a baby

  • Perinatal anxiety and depression. This can affect both mothers and fathers.

  • Fertility difficulties and managing assisted fertility and IVF

  •  Pregnancy loss and grief

  • Managing the adjustment to parenthood with pre-existing mental health concerns (Eg: Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Affective Disorder)

  • Circle of Security reflective parenting program. An early intervention program supporting parenting to develop strong and healthy attachment with their children.
